Seneca, South Carolina Real Estate and Community Info.

Wrapping around the blue waters of Lake Keowee and Hartwell and bordering the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains is the small town of Seneca in Oconee County. The 7,800 Seneca residents enjoy a low cost yet high quality of living and real estate that is at great values. Along with southern hospitality, its natural beauty, historic districts and low home prices, Seneca is known for its progressive, forward-thinking attitude. The town was dubbed “The City of Opportunity” at its founding, a name it still lives up today.

One of the largest employers in Seneca is Oconee Medical Center, with over 1400 employees. The top-of-the-line hospital offers the services of approximately 125 affiliated physicians, as well as more than 75 allied health professionals, and offers specialty services in the areas of Cardiology, Pathology, Anesthesiology, Radiology, Emergency Medicine and more.

Seneca's roots go back to the intersections of the Blue Ridge and Atlanta Charlotte Airline Railroads, now both part of the Norfork Southern Railway. With two railroads intersecting in the region, Seneca quickly became a marketing and shipping center for cotton. Textile mills were the main industry in the area for the first half of the 20th century. Today, top employers focus on manufacturing, technology, and power production. Large companies include Duke Energy, Schneider Electric, ITRON, BorgWarner, Johnson Controls, Inc., and more.

Shopping and Dining

The Copper River Grill offers traditional American cuisine. Casual and comfortable with a full bar and extensive wine list in an Alaskan lodge setting. Another local favorite is Atami Express serving delicious Japanese food.

Seneca does offer some of the national retailers we’ve all come to know: Wal-mart and Belk just to name a couple. You’ll also find many shops located in the shopping squares throughout town.

Parks and Recreation

The recreational opportunities, the area’s natural setting and nearby Clemson University has attracted retirees and young people from all over the United States to Seneca and made its real estate attractive. Lake Keowee offers many parks such as South Cove Park with breathtaking views from the recreational area and camp ground for your RV. Scenic, untouched nature at the edge of the mountains creates a tranquil backdrop for hiking, fishing, and kayaking.

Seneca has an enviable temperate climate and distinct 4 seasons. The summers are warm with temperatures in the 80-90 degree range and cool winters in the 40s. Plenty of sunshine will keep you smiling all year around.
