Pendleton is a small, tight-knit community of about 3,000 residents located in Northwestern South Carolina near Clemson. The town and the surrounding real estate were added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1970, so there is literally history on every street corner. Pendleton real estate comprises 3.6 square miles of picturesque landscapes and includes a quaint town square that has plenty of restaurants and shops.
The town was named for Henry Pendleton, a judge who, after fighting in the Revolutionary War, decided to make South Carolina his home. The earliest white settlers of the Pendleton real estate were Scots-Irish veterans who were joined during the late 1700s and early 1800s by aristocratic Low Country planters who favored the area for summer homes. From these beginnings, a very progressive and diverse region has emerged today.
